Conference Screening at the International Coral Reef Symposium
July 27, 2026
Auckland, New Zealand, 27 July 2026: Eclectic Aspirations is pleased to announce the successful conference screening of WEALTH UNTOLD at the 16th International Coral Reef Symposium, a landmark event held only once every four years that brings together the global coral reef community to help shape the future of reef conservation and management.
WEALTH UNTOLD is an award-winning documentary set in Belize that explores challenges faced by the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that sustains over half the country’s population through fishing, tourism, and cultural identity.
Produced over four years by a dedicated team of independent filmmakers and ocean advocates, the film offers an intimate look at efforts to protect marine ecosystems while balancing economic development. It stands as a beacon of hope for coastal communities worldwide and a testament to the powerful role of women in shaping a sustainable future.
The conference screening of WEALTH UNTOLD provided a powerful opportunity to complement the symposium theme of “working together to ensure a future for coral reefs.” By highlighting the leadership of Belizean women working to protect the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, the film demonstrated how community knowledge, inclusive leadership, and local stewardship are essential to building resilient marine ecosystems.
Held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Te Paepae Theatre within the New Zealand International Conference Centre in Auckland, the event was attended by over 100 delegates.
Following the screening, film participant Julie Robinson moderated a live panel discussion featuring Dr. Melanie McField (Healthy Reefs for Healthy People), Dr. Kris-An Hinds (Strong Coasts project led by the University of South Florida), and Hilda Lionata (The Nature Conservancy). The discussion connected the film’s experiences with global coral reef conservation challenges and solutions across the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean regions, inspiring delegates to consider how science, culture, and community action can work together to safeguard reefs and the livelihoods they support.
We extend our gratitude to the Organising Committee of ICRS 2026 for including WEALTH UNTOLD as part of the official programme. It was an honor to screen the film on Day 1 of the symposium and engage in conversation with the international community of scientists dedicated to safeguarding coral reefs worldwide.
We look forward to sharing this uplifting documentary globally. With only a handful of festival screenings remaining on our calendar, we are now focused on facilitating in-person community screenings and securing public television broadcasts to reach an even wider audience. As part of the film’s Impact Vision, we also provide bespoke support for mission-aligned partners seeking to leverage the film as a ready-made platform to amplify their own conservation and community goals.
